Other Indications

Based on its biocompatibility and functionality, methylidene malonate has potential utility for other topical indications such as skin tears in the elderly, chronic wounds, and as a biosurgical adhesive/sealant for internal use. OptMed has future plans for these applications, which could present first-in-class product opportunities.

The current market for internal sealants is $1.9 billion (2008), with limited existing clinical applications. OptMed's biopolymer chemistry is potentially suited for development of an internal sealant for applications such as support for vascular and gastrointestinal anastamoses, as well as other surgical procedures.
